Grocery Price Index: Woolworths cheapest at $238.45

The Cuugo Grocery Price Index for the week ending 18 September 2026: the same 60 staples, priced at Woolworths, Coles, Aldi and IGA.

Woolworths had the cheapest full basket, $238.45 for all 60 items.

• Woolworths: $238.45 for all 60 items
• Coles: $228.70 for 58 of 60 items (not white sugar or navel oranges)
• Aldi: $218.41 for 58 of 60 items (not long life milk or vanilla ice cream)
• IGA: $229.31 for 53 of 60 items (not free range eggs, chicken breast fillets, apples, orange juice, mushrooms, bacon or pumpkin)
• Buying each item where it was cheapest: $197.38

A store's change is given only where it priced the same items in both weeks and no change of method touched its lines.

• Woolworths: up $5.96 on last week's $232.49
• Coles: not comparable with last week, because its white sugar and navel oranges lines were priced last week and are missing this week; its vanilla ice cream line was missing last week and is priced this week
• Aldi: down $1.84 on last week's $220.25
• IGA: not comparable with last week, because its chicken breast fillets line was priced last week and is missing this week

Correction, 25 October 2026: this post carried a correction of 30 September that set aside only IGA's single apple and six eggs, and gave every store's change from last week, including stores that did not price the same items in both weeks; that correction is replaced by this one. Six lines priced a product that is not the item, or a pack or a price that cannot be the line, and are set aside: Aldi's vanilla ice cream (ice cream portions, not a tub), Coles' navel oranges (blood oranges), IGA's apples (one apple priced as a kilo, $0.35), IGA's chicken breast fillets (a price too low to be a kilo), IGA's free range eggs (a 350 g pack, six eggs, priced as a dozen) and IGA's orange juice (an orange juice drink, not juice). Woolworths is still the cheapest store with all 60 items, and this text gives the Index's own figures for the week, restated without them. The table on this page marks them as not priced, and its totals are restated without them.
